Workshop Descriptions |
| Introduction to Yoga |
| Jamie Elmer's Introduction to Yoga Course is recommended for students of all ages and fitness levels. This course specifically presents a step-by-step introduction to the fundamentals of a yoga class. Understanding the basic principles provides the beginner with a solid foundation for a safe and intelligent yoga practice. Through conscious breathing, simple postures in an inspiring atmosphere, one can experience a new perspective on life. No experience of flexibility required! | |||||||
| Hands On Adjustments Workshop |
| In this workshop, designed for teachers, or those wishing to deepen their practice, we will learn and practice specific hands on adjustments. We will focus on: * simple and more advanced adjustments for postures ranging from downward dog and child's pose, to helping students into handstand and forearm balance. * how the intention/energy behind the adjustment influences a student's experience and ours as teachers The power of touch is strong, and working with people's bodies is an honor and a responsibility. I hope through this workshop you will find not only practical tools to work with people, but also a greater sense of confidence as teachers. |
| Mind and Balance | |||||||
| Mind and Balance: a participatory workshop to link the mindful and grounded qualities of meditation with our asana practice. In this workshop we will: * practice guided meditations * awaken the body with a gentle asana practice * combine the stillness of meditation with balance postures to create focus while staying relaxed. All levels are welcome and no prior meditation experience is necessary |
| Exploring The Core | |||||||
| In this workshop, designed for intermediate students, we will examine the placement, flexibility and strength of our core...the pelvis. As we explore the placement of the pelvis in our most common asanas, we can: * strengthen the lower belly * ease the low back and hip flexors * open the hamstrings * free the hips * find balance for inverting When we move into asanas from our root, our core, the rest of the body opens, improving posture, easing of breathe, and allowing our energy to flow more freely. This workhsop will include core strengthening, hip and hamstring opening, as well as inversions. |
| Exploring Inversions | |||||||
| In this workshop, designed for intermediate students, we will focus on the benefits and joys of going upside down: how inversions can be empowering and exhilarating. We will also address the fears we encounter about inverting and learn tools to build confidence: mentally and physically. * We will explore multiple ways of building strength and flexibility to prepare the body to invert. * We will try different sequencing of upper back, abdominal and shoulder strength/opening postures for you to discover the kind of postural sequence that works for your practice to lead you to inversions. * We will discuss and practice specific types of inversions that are appropriate for certain neck and shoulder injuries, and learn modifications for these inversions. |
| Walking Yoga | |||||||
| In this workshop, we will learn body balance and energetic balance through walking. We pass through Tadasana with every step we take, anchoring with each footstep and lengthening with fluidity out of this anchoring. This lens will give you a way to apply how you walk to every posture in yoga and vice versa. You will be able to analyze and create your own balance in changing the way that you walk. With each step away from this class, you will have more insight into healing your structure with a physical base that draws you into the integration and synergy of your mind and body. This gait work was created by Sherry Brourman, PT and through practice and study under her guidance, Jamie became the first certified Brourman Gait Therapy Practitioner. |
